Work Visa
The objective of work visa category is to contribute to developing New Zealand's human capability base. If you are a skilled worker/occupation or your skills are required by a New Zealander employer, you need to have a job offer from New Zealander accredited employer.
(New) Accredited Employer Work Visa
Migrant workers can only apply for the Accredited Employer Work Visa, if they have a job offer from an employer that has gained Accredited Employer Status with Immigration New Zealand and that has had approval for a Job Check.
If your occupation comes in the “Green list,” your employer need not to go for Job Check approval, because Green List Occupations are exempt from Job Check.
The migrant worker needs to show that they are suitably qualified for trained for the position with qualification and/or experience (specified by the employer under job check application), in addition to INZ’s character, identity and health requirements. Only job offers paying at or above the median wage will qualify for an AEWV with some exceptions given to some categories in hospitality and health industry.
Having a job offer from a New Zealand employer in a skilled occupation is often the pathway to residence, because Immigration New Zealand has placed more emphasis on applicants with skilled job offers, when setting the points required for residence under the Skilled Migration Category.
